The site of community importance ROSCI0023 Cascada Mişina and the nature reserve 2.818 Cascada Mişina are located in the upper course section of Mişina stream, a tributary of Năruja river, on the territory of Nistoreşti commune, in the mountain side of Vrancea County. The site area is of 220 ha, plus the nature reserve area of 189,7 ha.
The site Cascada Mişina was declared a protected natural area of community interest in 2007, as part of the European ecological network Natura 2000, which aims at conserving in their natural area vulnerable species and habitats on the continent. Thus, in the natural area Cascada Mişina a number of species and habitats of community interest were identified and mentioned in the Natura 2000 standard form, the following being those for which it was declared a protected area: eight species of wild animals (mammals – lynx, brown bear and wolf; amphibians – yellow-bellied toad, great crested newt and Carpathian newt; invertebrates – Alpine longhorn beetle; fish – bullhead) and three natural habitats (mountain meadows, Luzulo-Fagetum beech forests and Dacian beech forests – Symphyto-Fagion), which shelter extremely varied elements of flora.
The natural value of the site is also due to the landforms that are strongly influenced by the past tectonic processes, thanks to which Cascada Mișina was born, with a height of over 12 m. The landscape is dominated by peaks that converge to the waterfall area and give the land a convulsive character, with narrow valleys and abrupt slopes. The area is wild and hard to reach, also playing a very important role as a refuge, mating, feeding and breeding area and even an ecological corridor for many species.
